When sourcing seafood from Indonesia, understanding the certification ecosystem is non-negotiable. Different markets have different mandatory requirements, and a shipment without the right documentation can be held at customs or rejected outright.

HACCP — The Foundation

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is the baseline food safety management system for all seafood exports from Indonesia. Mandated by the Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), every export-licensed processing facility must maintain valid HACCP certification.

HACCP covers:

  • Physical, chemical, and biological hazard identification
  • Critical control points at each processing stage
  • Temperature monitoring records
  • Traceability from harvest to finished product

For buyers, HACCP certification means the supplier has documented procedures for food safety management. Request the HACCP certificate number and expiry date — valid certificates are verifiable with KKP Indonesia.
