Request Price & AvailabilityLeather Jacket Fish (Monacanthus chinensis and related Balistidae species) — known as 剥皮鱼 (skinned fish) in Chinese markets — is a unique and highly prized seafood commodity in mainland China and Hong Kong, where it is a traditional ingredient in Cantonese soups, steamed fish dishes, and dried preparation. The species commands strong demand in China's domestic wholesale and wet market channels, where it is valued for its firm white flesh, low fat content, and distinctive cooking properties.
Indonesian Leather Jacket is sourced from the abundant populations in Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT), where the species is harvested by small-scale coastal fishing operations using hook-and-line and net methods. The fish is processed at our Surabaya facility in its characteristic "cleaned" form — skin removed (hence the "剥皮" name), headed, gutted, and individually IQF frozen — providing buyers with a product ready for immediate use in commercial kitchens or retail sale.
The species is relatively seasonal in Indonesian waters, with peak availability during the dry season (May–October), when coastal waters are clearest and catches are most consistent. TaMainco works with established fishing community partners in South Sulawesi and NTT to ensure reliable supply for our regular Chinese-market buyers, typically operating on quarterly supply contracts.
All Leather Jacket Fish is processed under HACCP certification and Halal MUI, making it suitable for export to both China's general market and halal-certified import channels in Muslim-majority countries. The product is typically shipped in reefer containers at -18°C with full BKIPM health certification and GACC-compliant documentation for China-bound shipments.
