Request Price & AvailabilityMud Crab (Scylla serrata) — known as 锯缘青蟹 in Chinese markets and Kepiting Bakau in Indonesian — is harvested from the extensive mangrove forests of Kalimantan and South Sulawesi, where the species thrives in brackish water environments rich in organic matter and natural food sources. Indonesian Mud Crab is renowned in Asian seafood markets for its dense, sweet meat, high meat-to-shell ratio, and natural flavor profile that requires minimal cooking to achieve exceptional results.
The mangrove habitats of Indonesian Borneo (Kalimantan) and South Sulawesi produce some of the largest and most flavorful Mud Crabs in Southeast Asia. The combination of warm, brackish water, abundant mangrove leaf litter (a primary food source), and low industrial interference results in crabs with naturally superior flavor compared to intensively farmed alternatives. TaMainco's sourcing partners in Kalimantan and South Sulawesi maintain direct relationships with licensed crab fishers across multiple coastal communities, ensuring consistent supply of live and fresh-frozen product.
Live crabs are transported in specialized ventilated containers maintaining optimal humidity and temperature conditions, achieving survival rates above 90% during transit to Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. For buyers requiring frozen product, our facility produces individual IQF frozen crabs and pre-sectioned crab portions under full HACCP certification, with Halal MUI covering the processing line.
The species is categorized by gender for different market applications: female crabs with roe (known as "Crabby" grade in Hong Kong) command premium prices in autumn and winter markets, while large male crabs are preferred for the leg meat and claw products popular in restaurant supply chains.
